Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.
Jeremiah 1:5
The pro-abortion propagandists have been flooding the airwaves in front of the upcoming vote on Amendment 4; an amendment that would legalize the termination of a child’s life in the state of Florida at virtually any stage, right up to birth. Other states are battling similar amendments. Since early voting begins next week, I felt this would be a good time to remind us all of why we must get out and vote to defeat this ungodly amendment.
It is tragically ironic that in Florida, destroying sea turtle eggs is a third-degree felony, which can result in up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Federal law has even greater penalties of up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine. And, the penalty for destroying or disturbing a bald eagle egg or nest under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA) is a fine of up to $250,000 and up to two years in prison. Yet, many who would be appalled at someone destroying a turtle egg, advocate passionately for the “right” to destroy the life of a human being while in their mother’s womb. What does that say about us as a society, given the fact that millions of people will vote to do just that, take the life of a child?
What does it say about us that in this nation, the most advanced and prosperous civilization in history, what does it say about us that, for many, the most dangerous place for a child is in its mother’s womb? I believe that, at the very least, it says that our “civilization” is anything but civilized.
Of course, the arguments from the pro-abortion camp almost always begin with the ridiculous notion that the baby that is growing inside of his or her mother is not a life; even though the Bible clearly teaches that life begins at conception, and even though everything in science confirms that truth.
A child in its mother’s womb has its own separate heartbeat, can smile, has arms and legs that freely move, hands that grasp, he or she can feel, and much more. A quote I recently came across from Dr. Ben Carson sums it up well:
“If it’s not a human being, then why are you harvesting organs from it?” Dr. Ben Carson
The current batch of pro-abortion commercials lean heavily on the rape and incest issue, in hopes of convincing voters that it is nothing less than cruel and unusual punishment to make a mother carry her attacker’s child. That is the classic red herring argument. Because, according to the Lozier Institute, only 0.4% of all abortions are performed as a result of rape or incest. (lozierinstitute.org)
They went on to say that 95.9% of all abortions are performed for, “elective and unspecified reasons.” (lozierinstitute.org) In other words, in the vast majority of cases, the mother and/or the father simply didn’t want a child.
But, even in the rare case of pregnancy due to rape/incest the rational voice of scripture is heard: The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself. (Ezekiel 18:20)
God’s word reveals that a man who rapes a woman deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law for his crime. And, his victim deserves to see her rapist punished. And, as a result of the man’s heinous crime, the child deserves death? No, killing the child is neither moral nor logical. Surely, if the mother does not want the child, adoption is a better option.
Another popular mantra recited by the pro-abortionist is: “My body, my choice.” But, that is precisely the problem. There are two lives, two bodies, two people, not just one. Inside of a pregnant woman is another human being with its own unique finger prints. They have their own distinct personality. He or she has their own DNA makeup; related to, but distinct from, both their mother and their father.
Yes, the child is in the process of growing and developing, but so is a 10 year-old. Growth and development aren’t proof that it’s not alive. It is the very evidence that proves that they are alive!
Perhaps the most atrocious and disingenuous argument by the abortion advocates is referring to the right to abortion as protecting “women’s right to healthcare.” The actor, Kevin Sorbo said it best:
“Referring to abortion as ‘healthcare’ is like calling slavery ‘Human Resources.’ It’s dishonest and wrong.” Kevin Sorbo
In a speech given in May of 1995, Nelson Mandela rightly said:
“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.” Nelson Mandela
The soul of a society that would promote such a thing as amendment 4 is surely a dark soul. But, still there is hope. In the midst of the darkness God calls His people to be light. God’s word reminds us:
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. (Psalm 127:3)
As followers of Christ we need to do what we can to make sure that children are valued for the gift from God that they are, and not an inconvenience to be sacrificed to the god of this age on the altar of self-autonomy.
I implore any and all of us who possibly can to get out and vote to defeat this amendment; as well as voting for candidates that would oppose this type of barbarous atrocity. Future generations desperately need us to. And, I believe, our Lord would expect us to.
For the Children,
PC
